Hi,

New to photoshop.

Is it possible to open a file, ie image, straight into a layer, or do you have to , as I have been doing, open the image then copy and paste it to a layer? I’ve looked in the manual, and tried find in this group, but can’t get the answer … which is probably dead simple!

Thanks.

Dave

To convert the background into a layer go to Layer –> New –> Layer from Background.
To simlpy copy the background into a layer, either duplicate the layer (Layer –> Duplicate Layer)
or press Ctrl-J (when nothing or all is selected)

I don’t know if it’s possible to open an image straight into a layer.
