An upgrade from Win2000 to XP seems to have caused some problem with conversion of .jpg or .tif files to Scitex .sct format. The conversion program runs, seemingly, but the .sct created file opens in Notepad full of computerese. The conversion process takes a just split second on a large megabyte graphic, so something isn’t right! Some dll missing? Re-install? I am also running Illustrator 10, so I have to be careful about reinstallations!

Upgraded how? Upgrading an operating system is a recipe for disaster. Always do a clean install of an operating system.

This sounds like an incorrect file association. Windows opens many file types in Notepad when it does not know which program to use.

Open the properties box for one of the scitex file and see what program Windows will use to open the file.

I don’t THINK that ps6 natively supports .sct. maybe you forgot to reinstall a plugin?

Surely the .sct format is on the install disc individually like the Gif89a is, No?

maybe it is… i just noticed it in cs and in 7. i don’t have 6 loaded to check.

what is scitex ct format used for anyway?

anyway, maybe the original poster should reinstall if the format is supposed to be supported. do a full (or custom with all options selected) installation.

Didn’t want to ask so I was a goofball but I found it’s used for massive stuff like posters and billboards etc. Large format stuff.

ah so. well hopefully the OP will be able to fix his problem with a reinstall then, since it seems to have been there all along…

I’m thinking when the 1st install was done, PS had the default for .sct but when the upgrade was done .sct wasn’t checked so Notepad got the default ‘cos he didn’t "recheck" it when reinstalling PS. Capish? Clear as a sunny day at night!
