I have a gif file that I right click and select open with Adobe Photoshop CS3. When I do this, Photoshop will not open the file but instead returns the error message "Could not complete you rrequest because the file-format module cannot parse the file"

I have no problem double clicking the file to open it in IE or any image viewer. Photoshop opens up other image files using a similar process.

Anyone know how I can get around this error message?

Thank you

If you open it another program, e.g. IrfanView, and save it, then PS will probably be able to open it.

Thanks for the tip. Irfanview fixed the problem. I’ll make sure I keep this program handy.

Basically, that means that the GIF file is damaged.

Many programs, including Web browsers, will show you a damaged picture. You will see on your screen all the parts that are not damaged, and you will usually see a gray pixel wherever there is damage.

If you have an image that is damaged, and only one pixel in the image has a problem, you might not know that the image is damaged. But Photoshop will not open a file even if only the last pixels is damaged; if any part of the image is damaged, at all, it simply won’t open (and you’ll see the error message you describe).
