You can’t open those files in Photoshop 7. Only Photoshop CS can do that. You’ll have to use the Pentax software to convert the RAW files to TIFF. I believe Pentax released a plugin for Photoshop, which is basically the same software in plugin-format. If it’s not on the CD, you can probably find it at the Pentax website.

Hello Bryan,

PS7 needs a plugin (you have to buy from Adobe)

PS8 (or PS-CS) has this integrated, but if its a new type of camera you have to wait a few months for Adobe to update the RAW-plugin.

Or…..you can try the software that comes with the camera. But RAW-software is not always sold with the camera…;-((

Greetings, Paul

It’s no longer for sale. Adobe withdrew it when Photoshop CS came out. And because the Pentax camera was introduced much later, it didn’t support Pentax RAW anyway.

Pentax does include software. I do not know any camera that can shoot in RAW and comes without software to open those RAW files. Wouldn’t make much sense, would it?

Didn’t know that!
So support for PS7 has stopped….?!!

The Nikon Coolpix 8800-VR I bought came without RAW software…;-(( Yes,…Nikon supported it in NikonCapture, but that was not included…

I was talking about the CameraRAW plugin for Photoshop 7, not about Photoshop 7 itself. But I guess support for Photoshop 7 itself was stopped too.

Your camera should have come with a CD containing Nikon PictureProject software. That can be used to convert NEF files. It should also contain a Nikon Photoshop plugin to open NEF files.

NO. Youi still get support for PS, you just can’t use it with RAW fioles unless you bought the plug in before they withdrew it. And why did they withdraw it? Can you say PS CS upgrade cash cow?

Yeah, Nikon only ever supply Nikon View which is practically useless. Read "yet another Cash Cow called Nikon Capture".
