I have copies of several old grayscale photos which were scanned at different resolutions which I’d like to make into an A1 size collage. Could someone please explain to this newbie the best/simplest way to resolve the resolution differences in the final image?

Thanks

Use these creatively as smaller parts of the collage than those scanned at higher resolutions. You can still adjust the size to larger, but not to the extreme.
