did you sucessfully delete the prefrences? did you get a dialog asking you to reset the photoshop settings or did you delete the prefs file per the faq link? if so, we need more details. what os? system config, etc? hard drives? swap file configuration? when does the error occur exactly?

What are your system specs?

What is Photoshop loading when the failure occurs? You should see information on what’s loading in the splash screen. It seems that many of the others who have posted about this error had issues with fonts – a quick form search on "hardware or system error" will lead you to some of the other threads on this. Below is a knowledge base link on trouble shooting the error.

Hey Stephanie, thanks for your help, and indeed PS stops when "reading fonts" in the splash screen. I did go to the link you said but it says to rename all the AdobeFnt.lst one ach hard disk, but i cant find the file, and on the other hand it also says to try to move all true type fonts to new folder EXCEPT the ones by WINDOWS but I dont know how to distinguish them , theres a link there but it doesn seem to work. I believe that finally Im approching to the solution!! : ). Thanks a million!!

Gia,

Do a search in windows explorer for adobefnt*.LST and delete all you find (They will be rebuilt as required).

To find a ‘bad’ font, move half your fonts to another folder and re-start Photoshop. If that solves the problem you know the bad one is in the ones you removed. Bu keeping ‘dividing by 2’ you can isolate the offending font reasonable quickly.

Hey Len, you definately rocked!!!!!! I finally load PS successfully!!! I just moved half of the fonts to a NEW FOLDER and then MOVE them BACK to my Font folder and it works!!! I didnt have to delete or isolate any fonts!!! just re-install them!!! Thanks a million!!!! thank you thank you than you!!!!!!
