I am unable to save a newly created image as a jpg.

This happens when I use layers and cut and paste parts of other photos. I comptete and flatten the image, but when I try to save, PS only gives me a very small file options, PS formats, tiff, and I forget the rest. I can save the image as a tiff, open in ACDSee and have ACDSee save as a jpg. I can then open the jpg in PS and save as jpg with another file name.

I am using PS CS version 8.0. I never had any problems saving newly created images as jpgs with PS 4.1, and I do not think I am doing anything different, but PS CS will not let me save as a jpg.

What am I missing? I am sure something that should be obvious, but I just can’t see it.

Thanks,

Roger

I assume you are trying "Save As"
What mode is your image in? Lab Colors give you much less options. RGB and CMYK both should do it.

If not Save for Web might be the option.

Is your image in Indexed mode?
If so change it to RGB.

If you only get these file formats, it means that you are working with a 16 bits/color file.

Johan is probably correct. Go to Image>Mode and if image is in 16 bit change to 8 bits and jpeg will become an option again.
