Is it possible to use the RAW plugin to batch out JPG or PNGs? It seems not part of the ‘regular’ photoshop tools so I’m not sure if I could create an action with that. To be honest, I’ve not done actions at all. I have done a lot with CS for years, I’m not a total newbie but…

I do know how to apply RAW adjustments to multiple images but how do I get that into non-RAW files without opening & saving each manually?

Hi Paul

I use Irfanview which is available free from www.irfanview.com, it will open raw files and save as a raw file and you can operate on batches as well.

OK, yes it is possible. Real simple but took me while to figure out. Here is the procedure:
< http://www.edgehill.net/1/?SC=go.php&DIR=Misc/photograph y/raw-batch> I wish it was smart enough to just put them in the same folder as the original files, it is a pain selecting the folder each time.

Irfan does work but it’s extremely slow with D70 RAW files and is not aware of AdobeRGB, incapable of 16-bit TIF and the PS-CS method I described allows custom settings applied to each image with the PS RAW conversion features which are very nice! I also set up a save for web resize that converts from adobeRGB to sRGB, resizes, sharpens and uses the save-for web compression features, stripping out EXIF, etc then making a thumbnail version resharpened. I still prefer Irfanview and use that for thumbnails actually because it makes smaller files and is easier to use. The save for web action requires editing the saveas path in the action (I think). At least I need PS to convert the adobeRGB, sometimes very saturated colors come out wrong without that step. Otherwise I’d prefer to use Irfanview.

Is there a way to specify relative paths in actions? That would be a big help.

"Dr. Brown’s Image Processor" is much slicker than the above. That’d be Russell Brown, PS teacher-advocate-guru extraordinaire. It’s a script that’s much easier to use than a bunch of actions. You do the RAW image settings the same way as the link above outlines first, tho.

Well, I checked it out and you still have to manually locate the destination folder starting from C:(kind of a pain). It does help with resizing though my very very simple action is just as easy for converting RAW and it doesn’t really give me enough control for making web versions. It is worth exploring for certain things but not a total solution.
