My photoshop file has several adjustment layers that I have used to adjust color, levels, contrast etc. for of a photograph. I have no hidden layers. When I use the save for web dialog (2-up), the colors and contrast are muted and the picture looks washed out on the (left) original image and the optimized image (right) looks the same. Since the washed out image is in the "original" screen, it should look identical to my psd image and it should not matter what my jpg settings are. But I have tried the maximum jpg setting and I still get see the same issue. What is causing this issue? If I save the jpg file and view it in another application, it looks appropriate. But the save for web dialog does not accurately portray the original or saved image, why?
In a related but much worse issue, when I use the web photo gallery my saved images are now washed out, similar to how the "save for web" dialog looks before saving. One thing that I notice is that the automated process uses "flatten layers" instead of merge visible before it saves as a jpg. Could this be the culprit? If not, what is this problem?
