I want to create an image with special effects that focus on the destruction of skyscrapers. The special effects that I need are very like what you would expect to see in a single frame taken from a Japanese "Godzilla" type movie. I am not an artist, but I have both Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 with a large selection of filters. This would probably be a lot easier if I were a graphic artist (or any type of artist) and understood how to draw. But the best I can do is search the web for fires, clouds of smoke and explosions, and modify them to fit the scene I am working on. And I can find very few explosions. In Photoshop I have the EyeCandy 4000 filters with smoke and fire amongst many others. My problem is that my artistic skills are very limited. I can find various destruction scenes on the web here and there, and then modify them with filters to look original.

Below are the links of what I want to work with. The first two are examples of the sort of destruction scenes I’m trying to replicate. The next is the model (R-rated Anna Nicole Smith in .png format) I would like to use. The last is a urban scene I might like to work with, with Anna Nicole bumping into the buildings, causing fragments of the buildings to fall and smoke/dust to be generated where she strikes the buildings. All I can think of to generate the falling fragments of the building is to cut, move and paste the fragments. The contrast needs increased on those fragments (as far as I’ve learned so far), or else they are so similar in color to the buildings that they originated from that they are invisible if they are in front of the buildings they came from.

In the past I was told that the first two images are fairly poor as far as visual effects are concerned. But they are far better than anything I’ve ever been able to produce. Not being an artist, I have to depend on filters, transformations and tools for special effects. I tried to produce explosions using puffy clouds and filters to get the effects I wanted, but I still wasn’t close to my objective. Can anybody give me some tips that might help me get nearer to my objective?

Your time is much appreciated.
