Hi there – I’m looking for a way to do a cool effect on text that makes light seem like it is shining through the text. I can do it in After Effects using the Trapcode Shine plugin. (I’m doing a 3 foot by 4 foot movies poster so I can’t use AE for it and just export it) But I can’t seem to get anything like it for PS.

I’ve used Ray of Light but it doesn’t really do the same thing. Any suggestions? I’m looking for a tutorial or a plugin to purchase?

Thanks in advance,
Rob Hart

I did see a tutorial on the web a few months ago on how to do something that looked much like "shine" does on AE text. I cannot remember the specifics but I think it used the "wind" filter and maybe some blur. Duplicate your text layer and try adding wind to it and you may be able to figure it out. Sorry I cannot be of more help…

Rob,

Just use After Effects to create your text effect and render it to a TIFF or PSD file that you can then bring into Photoshop. Be sure to multiply the AE comp resolution by about 2-2.5 to account for the difference between screen and print resolution. I’m guessing the movie poster would be printed about 150 dpi. If it’s higher or lower, adjust the multiplier accordingly. Be sure to render with the alpha so you can pull the title from the background without any problems (halos, etc.).
