I need to create text around a circular logo. Have tried the warp commands and scaling but am not having any joy. There is probably a simple method, but I am screwed if I know how.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

BTW, am using PS7 for PC.

Until CS you need to use Freehand or Illustrator. Extensis used to have a plugin called Photographics but it’s been discontinued. You might find a demo online.

There’s a tutorial for another way on this site:

use your shape stool, circle, text on path.

I think I must be the stupid idiot, coz I can’t find a command to put text on a path. Help!

The tutorial the previous poster gave me the link to works, but I am battling to get this right. I need the top half of the circle to have text in a semi-circle, then the bottom half to have another semi-circle with the text curving the other way (if you follow what I mean).

Now I am confused. Is this a Photoshop or an Illustrator question? —

You’re not the idiot, ‘stupid_idiot’ is. You clearly stated that you use PS 7. The ‘text on path’ feature was introduced in PS CS (PS 8).

Move the text cursor over the path and when you see the cursor get a line through it click on the path and type.

Photoshop. This is the Photoshop group, eh?

Anyway, thanks to all the respondants, I have managed to do what I wanted to do. I did the first set of text using the tutorial edjh linked to, then I used the Arc settings on the text tool for the bottom half. Not ideal, but it will do for now.

Now I have another question:

I’m creating a custom shape for this logo with the text using a selection thereof converted to a path (which is then used to define the custom shape). This works okay, but when you use the Custom Shape tool to recreate the logo, it gets very jagged and pixelated the bigger you make it. I used smooth anti-aliasing in the creation of the logo but I would have thought that because the path used is a vector shape, it would be smooth no matter how big you make it. Am I missing something?

you’re right…did not see that….I just assume everyone is working in CS because of the newest features.

Not in 7. No text on path until CS.

The problem you’re having is that you are trying to create a logo with a bitmap based program. Try using a vector based program and your image won’t get "jagged" and "pixilated" when you resize it.

Damn.

I have an old version of Freehand, but I have never been inclined to learn how to use it.

I thought that by converting a selection to a path I was actually creating a vector shape. Is this not the case? I don’t seem to see the same jagged edging on any of the other custom shapes in PS7 when enlarged.

I’m thinking that perhaps my original selection wasn’t perfectly smooth.

Damn.
