Hey Guys !

I just bought a brandnew 8MP camara, and expect to take a lot of pictures, guess it would be nice to have a decent piece of software to edit the pics. It just seems that Adope Photeshop is shooting birds with canons at my current skilllevel. Anyone who knows of a god program that can be either downloaded as shareware or at a reasonble fee.

Thanks in advance

photoshop. actually, an 8 MP camera is also shooting birds with canons.

I think photoshop is a complete solution and it grows with you which is to say:
You are stupid – ps doesnt do anything
you are a beginner – ps does some small modifications
you are intermediate – ps gives quite nice results
you are a pro – photoshop helps you on performing wonders

You can’t do a professional work without clue. Thats an illusion. But Photoshop is the tool, where you will set the limits. And not the app will limit you.

Your skill level will grow, google search for the "gimp" it’s free and good. My guess is that you will be off to the store for Photoshop in 6 months or less. Adobe will let you download a try out version, but the file size is huge. I think of it as a ‘darkroom on my desk.’

Good luck

Photoshop Elements 3. Then if you need the advanced stuff in PS when you’ve learned how to use Elements it won’t be so much of a shock when you buy it.(Excepting, of course, when you see the price for PS <g>)

Because he thinks the phrase "really sounds very kewl."

Most of the professionals that actually *are* shooting pictures of birds …. are using 11 to 16 megapixel cameras. (HeHeHeHeHe …)

Though I think the 20D gives good results from what I’ve seen…

Hello Brian, good name btw,

Corel Photopaint is a fantastic alternative to Photoshop. I personally prefer it and I have been doing photo restoration and manipulation for 8 years. Corel Photopaint comes as a part of the CorelDraw Graphics Suite, and in Australia at least (where I am) the entire CorelDraw Suite is only about 2/3 the price of Photoshop. You end up with the equivalent to Photoshop, Illustrator and Pagemaker (more or less) plus a Flash-type animation program.

Photo-Paint is indeed a "fantastic alternative to Photoshop" but it would be shooting his pictures with an even bigger cannon if he decided eventually to use Photoshop (two large learning curves). I vote with Hecate: start with Elements.

Before you blow the dough get some good freeware and learn to walk…run…fly…..(bilocate………???…. <bg>)

1)
Irfanview 3.9x (totally freeware – great prog for your pics right down to the Exif info and a great batch file processor to boot in many areas)–> http://www.irfanview.com or dl it from http://www.tucows.com

2)
(As Brian Olsen mentioned already
The Gimp –> http://www.gimp.org/

3)
Greatest batch cropper ever made (note the "s" at the end of "crops") is jpegcrops.exe –> http://ekot.dk/programmer/JPEGCrops/

That’s it
