Hey everyone, well I’m trying to accomplish a certain effect for a logo I’m making and I need help. I can’t seem to get it the way I want. I’m trying to make a Roman Numeral 3, and make it transparant over thisbackground I have (which is a grid) but I want the outline of the Roman Numeral to look like its glowing a blue color. Does anyone have any tips or tutorials on how I can accomplish this? I appreciate the help thanks!

Have you tried out "Outer Glow" in layer styles?

If I understand what you are trying to do, just fiddle with the opacity settings located at the top of the layers pallet.

Wouldn’t that lower the opacity of the whole image though? I want the "glowing outline" to be bright and vibrant, but then the rest of the number I want to have a transparant look to it.

What version – 7 has Opacity which is the master Opacity of the Layer (this is what you are thinking of) but also has Fill, which is the Opcity of the layer contents – doesn’t affect the ‘layer effects’.

I think earier versions also had this by double clicking on you layer to get the ‘layer style’.

Just a suggestion (if I’m getting your idea right in mind’s eye) If your numeral is a Text Layer, convert it to a standard layer (ie as pixels) Select all the pixels in the numeral and position them where they will be. Then, change your working layer to the background (grid)and copy the pixels from there. Then, Paste them back with the selection still floating. A new layer should be created which SHOULD appear to be invisible because it is identical to the layer below.
If you apply effects to this new layer you can achieve the Outer Glow with some ease.

Just remember to hide or delete the original numeral layer.
