I have posted a couple of times inquiring about my Photoshop not loading and have not been able to correct the problem. The splash page starts and then stops at "Icc Engines Loading" and then PS just disappears! What can I do to correct this. I have uninstalled, removed preferences to no avail. Photoshop is not even included in my add/remove programs. Please help!!

Rick,

Chances are you have a bad .icc profile on your machine – most likely a monitor profile. You will need to locate and delete it.

Well, I don’t know offhand what is causing the 5.5 failure, but you do NOT need to install it at all. Just run the 7 upgrade, it will prompt you to insert previous media to prove eligibility, then you replace again with the 7 CD and finish installation.

No, I don’t know…we see that error alot.
First thing to always try is delete prefs as per the FAQ. But that may not cure it…will let others have a shot.

Hi Mac, thanks a lot for your quick answer and help. I did follow your instructions and now when opening photoshop, this message appears : "UNABLE TO CONTINUE BECAUSE OF A HARDWARE OR SYSTEM ERROR. SORRY BUT THIS ERROR IS UNRECOVERABLE". Any ideas how to fix it?! Thanks a million again.!!

windows\system32\spool\drivers\color should be where the bad profile is located.

if you run adobe gamma all the way through without changing anything, you should see what file name you currently have your gamma loading from. once you have the name, cancel out of adobe gamma. go to windows explorer and find that file and delete it. then rerun adobe gamma from the control panel and create a new profile, starting with something like sRGB. just make sure you rename it.

Rick,

How do Find out which monitor profile is bad?<<

I see Dave has pointed you in the right direction for that one.

For general instructions on finding bad profiles, the best way is to move all the profiles you do not regularly use out of the
windows\system32\spool\drivers\color. That’s not a bad idea anyway, since it will speed up the loading of Photoshop

Thanks Dave and Len! That did it. I just deleted all of them and it worked. I hope I did not screw anything else up.
