This is more of an annoyance than anything. I’m using PS7 and I’m creating a bunch of legends for maps that have different colored boxes to denote areas. I drag the layer "Polygon" to the New Layer tab to create a duplicate but it labels it "Polygon copy". After doing this about 100 times today I just want it to say "Polygon"- every layer is a polygon -I don’t want to have to rename it every time.

I know the answer is probably, ‘No, that’s how it’s designed and you can’t switch it off’, but I just thought that I would ask. I’ve been using PS for about three years now and it seems like I learn something new everyday, so here’s hoping.

Thanks.

If you hold Alt while dragging to new layer, you have the option to rename it instantly (like removing the copy part of the name). A small help, in your situation. You could make an Action that does this, and run the action every time you want to dupe the layer.

Thanks for the tip — again, I learned something new. The Action idea looks like the most promising.
