I’ve got a computer, a fairly new Dell Windows XP system, that is running ve ry slowly when I pick File – Automate – Picture Package – Build a layout. I’m using Photoshop CS (8).
I’ve got the scratch disks setup to goto a different drive.
This Picture Package creation is very slow, I have other computers with less horsepower (cpu, ram, etc) that run the exact same process much more quickl
y.
When I look at the CPU performance on this computer, the system is only runn ing at about 15% of the CPU in the middle of a Picture Package creation. I would expect the CPU to be almost maxing out during the processing of the Pi cture Package, but it is not on this machine for some odd reason. Dell poin ts the finger at the software, Adobe points the finger at the hardware. My sense is I’m hitting a non-CPU bottleneck somewhere, but am not sure what it is. This computer has hyper-threading.
Other software on this computer seems to run just fine, its just this one fe ature in Photoshop that is very slow.
I’ve swapped out memory, updated BIOS, even restored the computer from the D ell Restore CD, nothing seems to help.
Any troubleshooting ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Anthony the Perplexed
