my PC in the office has an install of PS7; For the longest time it was a three monitor setup with a matrox parhelia card installed… however, support for the matrox line is so limited that we finally decided to put in something more commonly used (in this case an ATI Radeon 9800PRO)… we lost a monitor in the process, but there have beeno ther problems that seem to be unique to photoshop, and only certain aspects of it. (the system is a dell with win xphome.)

Ever since the new card was installed, images within windows within photoshop are siginificantly darker than they really are, and seemingly a bit oversaturated than they are too… if I hit ‘save for web’ (ctrl-shift-alt-s) the prevew shows things in the correct color. Furthermore, other software does not seem to suffer from this affliction.

Now, it’s only been a couple days since the new card went it and I’m still working with designs and imagry generated prior to the change, but soon enough I’ll have to create some new designs and if this isn’t resolve somehow, I’ve no doubt that the saturations/lightness and whatnot will be all wrong.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling PS several times and have mulled over the settings for the card, but nothing jumps out at me EXCEPT that even after uninstall/removing all obvious related leftover files/reinstall, my particular settings (such as tool box locations, etc) remain in place, so some vestage of my previous photoshop settings exist somewhere that i’ve not found.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone understand PS7 on a level deep enough to comprehend where the problem is and what I might try to persue a fix?

first, make sure you get the latest drivers for the card from ati’s web site. then run adobe gamma from the control panel and create a new profile.

I second that. Particularly since you said that colours returned to normal with Save For Web. (strips off colour management).

You may have to switch the folder option for the Control Panel to "classic view" in order to see Adobe Gamma there.
