Hej there!
I am kind of new and novice to Photoshop (7) and it seems that I have mission impossible to complete, but anyway, I do not yet give up hope.
So, what I want to do is to put together some text and a picture for a black and white image in the following way:
– the A4 page full of text (from edge to edge, in capital letters) – the picture of a person appearing from the letters, so that the letters are of different shadows, thus forming the image.
– Basically, when you look close, you can read the text, but when you grab the whole image, you see the picture. (although there is no actual picture on the final image)
Pheew, it is the best way I could describe it, I tried to searh in Internet for some examples, but didn’t come across any. Well, anyhow I hope that someone out there understood my idea, and is able to help.
Thanks for any suggestions or hints:)
Best,
katri

Katri,

If you set the text as a text mask over an existing image, inverted the selection and then hit Delete, that may give the effect you are looking for, but I imagine the text would need to be a pretty small point size with minimum word-spacing and leading for the image to be really recognizable

Katri,

For a non-destructive way to do this, see…

Robert Levine "Making photo show through text" 5/5/04 10:46am </cgi-bin/webx?13/1>

Selecting the upper image layer and hitting Ctrl+G (Group with Previous) is another way to do the Alt-click-in-between-layers thing Bob describes.

Len,
I am not so familiar yet with the masks, so I got into trouble there, as I didn’t know what you meant… Could you please explasin?
Thanks for help, both of you;)

Katri,

If you click and hold on the Type tool, you will get the option of selecting the horizontal text tool, the vertical text tool, the horizontal text mask tool or the vertical text mask tool.

The text mask tool(s) just creates a selection area of the characters you type, rather than the characters themselves.

Len,
So i shouldn’t convert text before?

Katri,

So i shouldn’t convert text before?<<

Sorry, not sure I know what you mean by that.

What I would do is create your text in a text editor, copy it to the clipboard, go to Photoshop, open your b/g image file, Select the Type Mask tool and Paste in the copied text.

Good to hear, Katri – any chance of posting a screen shot so we can see the results?
