sizing imported images in PS

in other programs, its not hard at all to size a picture within a picture, but in PS i dont see any points that i can pull when i select an object in my image window. am i missing something??? i just want to make object bigger and smaller. i get the whole idea of the layers but thats about it.

what version of PS?

Command-T should get you to the free transform and its control handles which is what you seem to be looking for.

Be aware too that some "other programs" also treat images truly as objects rather than editable raster images. In Photoshop, an image may be comprised of both raster data and vector objects (such as shape layers). You need to think in terms of transforming either selected regions of raster data or transforming layers (vector or raster).
