I was given an ATI 7500 (AGP) and was told it will work with a dual monitor setup. Question I have is whether the output ports send different images to the monitors or the same to both. I’m using Win XP Home.

Thanks,

The output will depend on how you set it up.

Bob,

You’re even more cryptic than I am.

There are three output: monitor(vga type), s-video, and funny looking plug which then has a vga coupler. I planned to use the two vga types for monitors and then set XP to have two monitors.

Will this work? If not, how should I do it?

Thanks,

I think (if its the same as the 9700pro) that one is standard svga output (analog), and the other is digital, requireing a special cable (of course, not included). or are you talking about the one that hooks to the purple ati box that has tv out options?

Only Chris Cox is more cryptic than me. <g>

The setup should be fine, but as Dave pointed out, you may need an adapter depending upon the monitors. The setup would be done in the video driver telling it to treat both monitors independently.

The second output is a dvi and I have a coupler/adapter that goes from dvi to vga plug.

Now that I have faith in what I can do, I’ll install the card.

Thanks for help.

I have a Nvidia 5200 in a Dell 8300, 17in digital and CRT, and I’ve looked all over the forum for the best way to set up Photoshop Elements to get the picture on one monitor and the controls on the other. The Nvidia tutorial shows this but doesn’t go into setup details. Also I want to get fullscreen on one monitor and run the program on the other when editing with Premier Pro. How do you set this up, and are there alternative setups for these tasks?

Burton–

I will take a stab at an answer.

1) If you have a Vid Card the has both the Standard CRT Monitor plug and the Digital Out Plug, you can buy an adapter at your local computer shop that will allow you to hook two CRT monitors up to one card (or you can use an LCD on the digital). Go to Step 3.

2) If you don’t have a Vid card that allows two displays, you will need to purchase an additional PCI vid card and install it. I’ve had the best luck with ATI Rage 128s — I currently have 6-7 stations running Dual (and in my case Triple) monitors on those cards. Go to 3.

3) By going in the display properties control panel you should be able to enable the second screen (many cards detect this on re-boot and your DISPALY PROPERTIES > SETTINGS Tab will show two screens) by clicking the "Extend my Windows Desktop to the Monitor" check box.

Photoshop and many other wares will allow you to split the palettes onto one display and use the entire main display for workspace. You can set up "Workspaces" in PShop if you need more than one configuration for Photoshop on you two screens.

Hope that is of some help.

PS–When using one AGP and one PCI card, on some older systems, you need to select the AGP port as the main screen in the BIOS. If you go that route and see that you’re booting on the PCI check there first.
