I’m pretty new to both the web design/publish thing and also to PS. I just spent my 600 on CS
I use PS, PSP and also FrontPage for finished web product.

I am a li’l confused about layers and tables I hope someone can help me?

Is there any way for me to create my tables in PS before saving the .html for FP to read? Should I create my text and image placemarkers in PS afore saving to .html? how do I do that?
Or, should I just save the best I can in PS, save off to .html, pick up in FrontPage and then deal with my layers and tables for text and image placement?

I don’t know which is best to do or, how to do it!
1 thing I can do easily is the slice and design in PS but I have to do the ..html FP Layers and Tables for my regular text and image content on a web page.

Does that make any sense? Clearly, I’m not being clear! but I am confused! Thanks.

Do all your art work in PS then save for web then place the art in Front page as required, don’t try and add anyone elses html to Front Page (ie image ready), it won’t like it. FP has it’s own way of doing things and if your going to mess with it’s code make sure you have backups.

So, does that mean to do my Layers and tables and text and picture in FP AFTER I’ve done the graphics and slices and rollovers in PS?

Is that best?

Thank you.

Yes. but to be honest if your going to use slices and rollovers you might find dereamweaver a more friendly program.

Frontpage revolves around frontpage themes, which you can learn to make yourelf but they are different fromm slices and rollovers.

Yes, thank you – I get the theme ‘thing’ in FP – and also how FP does it’s own button rollovers and stuff.

I would love to get DreamWeaver but….I just purchased Photoshop – even though I’m a 10+ yr PaintShopPro user – that was $600.00 I don’t see Dreamweaver in my budget this week! and Yes, those rollovers in PS are a little awkward.

1 more Q. pls.?

1)… So, I have my finished web page in PS ready to get chopped up to go to ..html

2)… I save to .html and then go and Open the .html in FP

3)… Those FP ‘Frames’ & ‘Tables’ are then needed – as placeholders – for the web page text and .jpg insertions.

My question then is:
Is there a way to have those picture and text placeholders in the original ..psd file afore they get .html’d AND that they’ll be interpreted seamlessly by FP???

So, I can just start placing pictures and typing text into FP

Thank you

just a thought… have you tried the "open in image ready" button (bottom of tool palette) ?
image ready does a lot of web-ready stuff, as a sort of photoshop ad-on.

I have hardly used it but I know others who rely on it regularly…

No, thats the problem using FP. You either use the inbuilt FP code to do everything or you use your own inserting it via INSERT > WEB COMPONENT > ADVANCED CONTROLS then chosing the HTML control and pasting it in. This lets you insert any code you like, including java etc and FP will ignore it or not interfear with it. The problem though is that you cannot then "see" this code in action in the front page preview editor, as FP ignores it and it can only be viewed via the browser. This is a hassel and the reason many move to another editor that does not use proprietory code.

Best plan is for you to try a few experiments and see how it looks.

Don’t get me wrong FP is a superb web editor but it has limitations, I use it for some jobs but not for others, horses for courses.

Yes, my mistake. When I said PS I meant to say PS/IR – I have the CS version whatever that stands for?

Thanks.

Yes, after assessing all those that have helped me with my questions the final answer does appear to be some form of:

‘horses for courses’

Cheers~~~

cs is creative suite… try opening your file in image ready and check out the options.

but I agree – best to do the images in ps/ir, and do the html in frontpage, dreamweaver, fusion, etc, etc…

actually… I am still charging "beginner" rates… about 1/3 of the prices I have heard lately coming out of SLC and/or Las Vegas. I really like doing this stuff and have zero overhead, so as long as I make enough to cover my time, I am happy.

thanks for the kind words.
