I’ve had the same problem on several different computers.

I’m getting unexpected launches of Photoshop Help when working with the Color Table in very large Indexed Color images.

Any insight or help will be greately appreciated.
Thanks,
Frederick

Frederick,

While I can’t help, I would suggest you identify your O/S and what version of Photoshop you’re running. That may help if others have ever seen this occur.

That has happened to me in the past using Win98 and 98SE with PS 6 and 7. Happened when system resources got low. When resouce meter dropped into yellow, but long before Windows signaled the 90% resource warning (when you were usually dead in the water anyway).

I’ve had random Help launches (PSCS, W2K, dual Plll Xeons). No pattern visible so far. I’ll suddenly get 6 or more instances of Help. (I don’t often use indexed color images, so that’s an unlikely cross-correlation)

Hi Daryl, I just added a link to your site on my slowly evolving site. <http://kenstorch.com/html/photoshop_resources.html> about 3/4 down.

Ken,

Thanks for linking my site…I appreciate the reference and being included among such fine company as the others whose sites you’ve listed.

You’re welcome, Daryl.

Anybody ever get a handle on the ‘Help’ issue?

I’ve experienced this problem as well. For me, it has usually happened when adding a "layer style" of some kind. I’m not sure why, but it seems to happen most when I’m applying a stroke. At times it has been so bad that PS has been essentially disabled. When I close the Help windows, and go back to PS to continue my work, another half dozen Help windows pop up, and I can’t do my work. Like Mac said, it seems to be connected to low resources. I haven’t found any solution other than closing PS and opening it again. Of course, that can mean losing work (since you can’t get rid of the Help windows long enough to save), but it’s the only solution I know of.

ditto with me also..

though no particular pattern in my case that causes this. The only thing that i’ve noticed when it occurred is my erratic habit of clicking before I hover over a tool. As if I hit some magic imagemap to invoke the Help File.

Just assumed it was my fault until reading this thread!!!
