I have PS7 and need to back it up to reinstall on a newly wiped computer with all of my stuff intact. I’ve added brushes, actions, etc.

How do I back up and reinstall all of the goodies I’ve saved along the way? Thanks so much for any help.

You use the original files to reinstall the "goodies" once you have PS7 installed. If you don’t have the original files then you can go in to the various palettes and save the stuff out.

1. Copying the Brushes, Actions etc. to your CD or other hard drive

2. Reinstall your PS7

3. Copying the brushes, actions and other goodies back to where you want to copy them to.

4. Then tell PS7 where to locate them then yu have it.

IOW, anything requires installation then you will need to reinstall from the original.

This way PS’s speed will be kept intact.
Alternatively, get hold of Norton Ghost or any other Image creating program, and create a image with PS setup the way you want it. (Learn about it via your search machine)

Note – if making a image, it is best to have programs in their original form, so maybe you should go Joe’s way.

Hehehehe if our Dave knows Image Backup program & how Windows works is a little more than just backing up the PS. Yup! even I don’t use Norton Ghost or similar but I think I can smell a little more than that simple.

So just do as I said.

1. It won’t take more than few seconds or minutes to copy the actions and brushes to another hard drive, or CD. And I don’t think it would be more then few hundred Ks, and it should fit onto memory card or flash drive just fine (if our Dave don’t want to waste a CD).

2. And it would take more than 5-10 minutes to reinstall the PS7 then copy all those Actions and Bushes back.

And of course *unless* the OP wants to backup the WHOLE drive then it’s another story and our Dave could be right about using Backup program.

That is axactly what I spoke of. I *always have an Image of my C Drice on my (500g) external drive and once or twice a year I format the hard drive, reinstall what I want and turn over a new page.

save a copy of the entire pre-sets folder to removable storage or CD you may want your gradients textures formats RAW updates too……… save your plug-in folder but some may require reinstall too so having orig dl is best

If you have not saved your actions you created into sets they will not be there!!!
so before uninstalling make sure you saved them all through the menu palettes
same for gradients

install the ps 7 >>>make sure to get the 7.01 patch too (avoid save errors) to your new OS install

then copy what you need over to the new folder PS 7

what you don’t want to copy over, is the list of recent files history

In addition any item I download like add-on brushes, actions, gradient sets I keep in another folder called PS Add-ons& Plugins

sometimes you don’t want to auto load everything on start-up you can just add them back one at time as you need them using>> LOAD

Am I missing something here? Couldn’t you just copy the entire folder, install the program to the new drive, and dump the folder back saying overwrite files? Then you don’t have to pick and choose what to save and what not to save?

You don’t miss anything *but* the program will miss the "REGISTRY" which is part of the most important parts of how Windows works.

IOW, *if* you can copy "the whole folders" + "registry" then there won’t be anything missing. But if you miss the registry then you will have a DEAD program in a folder.
