Hi!

Before you further read this thread go to this link that summarizes the new features of Photoshop CS4:

http://garmahis.com/software/adobe-photoshop-cs4-new-feature s/

In order to understand the 64-bit capabilities which is the crown jewel of this new version of Photoshop, you are advised to go through:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13580_3-9909725-39.html

In order for you to have a black laughter about how Adobe considers people naïve, you may watch this video on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3ybu4YmdNE

For those who actually know the Adobe Photoshop pattern of upgrade, they will realize that we are living the same atmosphere of moving from Photoshop 6 to Photoshop 7 !

Yes, indeed this is the true 64-bit version (though our Mac friends will not enjoy that). 64-bit version means the monster of long shots in terms of file sizes that can be dealt with (RAM permits). That means, Photoshop can actively deal with about 4 billion times the file sizes in 32-bit environment, given that RAM is available!

Yes, indeed this is considered to be a major upgrade. However, do not expect a radical change between Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS4 (from the practical functionality point of view)!

My advise is that users around the world have two options:

1- Buy this version and pray that Adobe Corporation will charge a very low price for the next upgrade (Photoshop CS5 is expected to contain some impressive features which makes it the best in the chain). This will only serve as a redemption for the money paid to buy almost identical versions which are Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS4.

2- If you have Photoshop CS3, wait to upgrade when Photoshop CS5 is released (hopefully in 2009), for the reason that a lot of source code in Photoshop application software has been rewriten from scratch, and, possibly there will be dozens of bugs to be fixed later in Photoshop CS5.

Personally, I would like proof that Mohamed actually has real knowledge if the shit he is spewing. Where’s the proof? What’s your source or are you just pulling it from a deep dark whole? You have to wonder about people that claim these things when the newest version hasn’t even shipped which means at best Adobe has a starter list of things to do for 5 but hasn’t even started because CS4 doesn’t ship for another month. Also, Adobe has never been one for major rewrites of code. This is why so many features in previous versions never get fixes. Like being able to save history, convert it to an action, if/then and user input capabilities for actions and so one. Adobe just isn’t going to risk a major re-write. Hello, they have problems releasing Lightroom 2.0 without major bugs and then they put out a 2.1 update that fixes some bugs but causes more than they fixed. They are not going to do a major re-write and risk a total collapse especially on their flag ship program Photoshop.

So again, what is your source? Where is the proof?

How do you tie you writing together when in your first sentence accusing him of spitting shit end sentences later, in fact the last, you ask him (again) for proof of what he said? If this is the way you construct an argument, do not get involved in arguments because you will be laughed at. Since when is somebody guilty before proven?

Since George Bush became president. That is why they spy on people first, worry about the legalities of it later. My question is a legitamate one. What is his source? What is his proof that any thing he has said was any more than a wet dream on his part.

Robert,

First of all, please don’t be angry!

The code should have a radical change in terms of memory management. As a matter of fact I never saw a software like Photoshop which can deal with memory in such an efficient way. Taking into consideration the vast changes imposed by moving from 32-bit environment to a 64-bit environment, will you please add to my information what should be changed in the source code, specifically, in the portions that deal with buffering optimization? I highly appreciate telling me, considering yourself in Adobe’s shoes, what is the percentage of change in source code? IMHO, I consider the change done in the portions of memory management and redefinition of variable types and rewriting the assembly code associated with such a change to be a really BIG effort. Maybe I had to clarify in my post "for you" that rewriting excludes the core algorithms such as menus design, mathematical formulas and the logic of various operations.

Still if you just go through this link

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13580_3-9909725-39.html

that speaks about 64-bit implications, you will have "an idea" about the proof you seach for. If you ask me to provide you with samples of what has been written in the Photoshop source code before compilation, then I stand helpless in this case!

Thank you for spending time to read my words.

Mohamed Al-Dabbagh is correct that memory management would be an area that sorely needs improvement – right now images over about 150 megabytes cause chronic problems for my customers.

Switching to a 64 bit architecture is a sweeping change that would improve without the need for many small changes to software.

BTW – I have found Mohamed’s contributions to this group over the years to be uniformly positive, and hope that he continues to be patient with those of us who place no value on common courtesy.
