Hi all

Can’t believe I did this – and is a reminder not to work on important stuff in the middle of the night πŸ™

I created a pic in Photoshop last night saved it as .psd then as a .jpg.

Does anyone know if I can turn my computer "back" in time to when it was a ..psd?
Thanks for any help!

i’ve done the same before and the original file….psd is still there, not overwritten. you just need to find it.. do a search with your file manager because you saved the psd first, unless you have deleted it then it has t be there

Sorry I didn’t explain too well – I changed the dpi to 72 and saved as jpeg for the web – when i finished it asked if I wanted to save changes to the psd i clicked yes so my photoshop pic is now 72 dpi instead of the required 400dpi.

Sorry for the lack of clarity – having major panic attack here πŸ™‚

Uh… sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you’re stuck. This cannot be undone. Once the file is saved and closed, there is NOTHING you can do to get it back. Undo history is not maintained.

Sorry to hear it, but we’ve all done this. It’s nature’s way of embedding important lessons in our brain and forcing us to find ways not to make those mistakes again.
On the bright side, if you’re like me, you could probably stand to miss a few meals. <g>

When you changed the DPI did you have Resample checked? If not, then all the original pixels will still be there. Just type back in the original DPI….with Resample still unchecked.

Nothing is more painful than the lesson that teaches you to never work on the original, once it is finished.

Exactly. By the way, there’s no need to change resolution before using Save for Web, though you might need to change pixel dimensions if the image is too large. If you didn’t resample you should be okay.

Surely the OP changed the actual pixel dimensions of the image in the process, rather than just changing the nominal dpi? They wouldn’t be in a bate if they’d just changed that. Sounds to me like the image they have now is much smaller than the one they started with.

Sadly I did have it checked. However thanks for explaining the function of resample thingy.
I get so overwhelmed with the amount you have to know in PS esp. about resizing Inches? pixels? Bicubic etc you get the picture…

Vernacular english, a bit outdated these days. To be in a bate is to be upset. Sorry for the confusion.

*nods knowingly*. I have SO done this myself in the past, and more than once. Long days, stressful deadlines and a mistake like that just waiting to happen. This is why I always save multiple revisions of files these days! Even if I really screw up, I’ll never loose more than a few hours work.

Oh well *hug*.

Do you mean you set the image at 300 ppi, or that you print at 300dpi (not the same).
