Hey, I have an image that’s sort of like an explosion of color (blue) from the center of the image to the edges, where it’s black. I want to be able to overlay the blue part over any other background color or background image, without having any black go with it. From what I understand, what I want is a gradient of transparency from the center towards the edges, where the more black there is, the more transparent it’ll be, and so the blue will gradually fade to complete transparency. So far I’ve extracted a layer whose edges follow the general contour of the blue part, but it’s attached to the black edges. How can I use transparency to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi,
Have you tried using Select>Color Range. It may work best to select the black then invert the selection then apply that as a mask to the layer you want the non-black parts visible.
If that is not what you’re looking for and you do not get a better reply you might want to post a link to the image so we can see what you are working with.
Good luck,
Ron
