Dear experienced Photoshop users

I have a workstation that runs windows xp and recently rec’d a notice that there is an up to 315 mb sp now available.

My question is has anyone using xp and having installed this upgrade run into any issues with their PS CS v8.0 version.

TIA.

Kind regards,

Kelly Kirsch

You may not have issues with PS but you may have issues with installing SP3. I have had problems with two computers.

Dear Rob,

Thanks for a quick reply. Were you able to overcome the issues? Did you wind up installing the the Windows Service Pack?

Kind regards,

Kelly Kirsch

I don’t think there are any specific Photoshop issues with XP sp3.

Personally, I decided against installing sp3 because, as I recall, the installer had a disclaimer to the effect that sp3 had a dose of digital rights management – restricting downloads etc. Didn’t see the benefit.

So I’m sticking with sp2 for the time being. I still get more than enough Windows updates (LOL), so it’s not as if rejecting sp3 means you are losing support completely.

Hi,
SP3 went smoothly on two of my computers but I had a very difficult time on my main computer. I ended up having to repair the OS from the original CDs then reinstall SP2 then use a special third party utility to remove all the dot net framework before I could get sp3 to install. It was days of stress. It is probably very unlikely that you will have a problem but it is possible so you may want to backup your system before you install it.

Good luck,
Ron

Yeow! Well, now I’m glad I’ll be skipping sp3 and moving right on to Vista 64 in the next couple of days. 😛

That will be so nice. I sure wish I could do that. I think MS should have skipped the 32 bit version this time – 4GB is just not enough anymore.

Firstly – I made an SP3 install disk by slipstreaming SP3 update into the SP2 install CD. This is to do clean installs.

MS downloaded SP3 with auto updates and when asked installed it. We had the BSOD on bootup. To overcome the problem I did a repair install with the CD. This was on 2 PC’s.

Batches of computer types, in a 250 laptop school classroom situation, three types in all some were OK, two Toshiba, one would the other gave problems, and Dell were OK. A warning went out to the users not to install the auto update and continue with the SP2 updates.

MS have solutions on their web site, I never could understand the tech report how to correct the problem as it was quicker for me to do a repair install.

It just combines most of the SP2 updates into one file. Something like a clean install of SP2 and 270Mb of updates or SP3 install and 100Mb of updates.
