Hi guys, I mostly work off my laptop so screen space is at a premium.

You know when you’re doing a quick mask and you want to have a close- up view and an actual size view so you have two windows open of the same image? How do you get the zoomed out one to sit on top of the zoomed in one? Having them sit side by side is a waste of space so I really want the small window to sit on top of the zoomed in large window to keep it visible when I’m working on the zoom.

There are apps that keep windows on top but they apply to the whole application and I haven’t found one that works on different windows within an app.

Would be really grateful if anyone has a tip to share on this issue.

Jo

ps tried to post this on alt.com.pshop but it didn’t appear so forgive the x-post if it shows up later

Hi,
I have this problem a lot. I use Maya so I usually have to keep a dozen or so windows open and organized across two monitors. I could not get along without a program called FileBox eXtender. I found it because I got tired of having to re-sort files when I save or load by versions, but found it to be an even more important app because it allows me to pin windows on top and just as important it allows me to roll windows up like blinds while in front of my veiwport. The problem is that it has some redraw issues inside of PS. It’s a nuisance but I have learned to work around it.

I will be interested in hearing if anyone else has something better.

Hi Ron, I too couldn’t exist with out Filebox Extender but I can’t get it to keep actual Photoshop windows open on top of each other. In an earlier version of both apps the pushpin buttons were there but didn’t function. I queried the support people at Hyperionics and they said the app wasn’t designed to work with Photoshop. Now with CS3 and Vista I don’t get any pushpins at all, apart from on the main Photoshop window.\

Also looking forward to hearing what others have to say.

Sorry Jo, I did not notice that the pins do not function in PS. That’s too bad. Come to think of it, FBX has been mostly a pain in the butt with regards to PS but I try to overlook it because I need it elsewhere. I was hoping that Vista would have a more sophisticated window management system and multiple desktops but from what I have seen, and I have used Vista very little so far, is that it does not.

I had cross-posted this topic in alt/photoshop and one of the users there suggested the nav/info window. It’s better than nothing but you can’t adjust the zoom without adjusting the window size. Worth trying anyway.

Cheers,
Jo
