Hi guys, how can I avoid having my images get a pale band around the outside when I save for jpg? It’s most annoying when I have created a background to blend in with a web page only to find there is a very obvious pixel-wide ring around the edge. I can fill it manually but it would be nice not to need this additional step when processing multiple images for upload.

Thanks in advance,
Jo

How are you doing this, and what are you starting from? Are you reducing size anywhere along the way, are you sharpening (this sounds like over-sharpening), what software are you using, etc.

You should be creating images for web browsers without colour management on (or set it to use sRGB), and when you use "Save for web", make sure "ICC Profile" is unchecked.

(Some recent browsers can use colour profiles.)

ag wake up, Cats:-) He didn’t ask anything about reducing images. Obviously, the software he’s using is PS, that’s why he is here. Why, if you were serious, did you not offer some answers? Keep quiet, and you won’t be laughed at.
Over sharpening never caused a ring.

Dave

PS
Why don’t I offer an answer, you ask?
Because I am waiting (in quietness) to learn, you twit.

Flatten your image first!
This sometimes happened to me when working on files with no background layer.
If you want to keep your layers, promote the bottom layer to a background (Layers – New – Background From Layer)

Thanks everyone, I’ll try flattening and turning off colour management.
