Hi, I am about ready to upgrade from my version 7.01 to the latest and greatest version of Photoshop and was wondering if anyone has heard any rumblings about when a version newer than CS(v8) might be coming out of Adobe. It would be just my luck to buy CS only to find out a month later that version 9 is coming out.
thanks

If you believe the rumors, Creative Suite 2 (including PhotoShop CS2
[9.0]) is due any time now. I’d hold off upgrading.

I’d go ahead and get it now regardless. Rumors of an Upgrade are always flying and Adobe has a window of upgrade protection in case you buy a product and a newer version is released. I purchased CS Prem and received a free upgrade for the PageMaker Plugin Pack almost 45 days after my original purchase. The Plugin Pack was released about a month after my original purchase.

the first time?

It’s a real pain if you realise you’re one day outside the free upgrade window 🙂

Expect a new release (CS2) next week (April 4) most likely, if not the week after

Seems as though Google indexed this Adobe press release a few days ago, even though Adobe has not made it public yet. (Scheduled for release on April 4th) Photoshop CS2 is scheduled to ship for OSX and Windows users sometime in May.

This press release for Photoshop 9 is scheduled for April, but it came thick and fast when I searched for this anticipated App. Improved file browser, HDR image support and firewire preview look cool for us digital video fans, but there are changes to the layers pallete, instancing etc. Not everything i wanted/wished for or even heard rumoured, but good none the less.

A few highlights from the leaked release:

Photoshop CS2 integrates a new set of intuitive tools, including an enhanced Spot Healing Brush, for handling common photographic problems such as blemishes, red-eye, noise, blurring and lens distortion. Smart Objects allow users to scale and transform images and vector illustrations without losing image quality
