I’m looking for the best and fastest method of precise lips selection. Please take a look at a sample image at

Suppose I want to make the lips bright red, just as they were painted by a lipstick. First I need to select them. How should I start? I know all the basic methods such as masks, magnetic lasso, magic wand, etc. But that’s theory. In practice it’s very hard to do (try it!). Do you have any suggestions?

1. Quick mask and paint in or out using black or white.
2. Use the pen tool.

Get a wacom graphics tablet, it makes selecting and outlining things very easy

To do as a quuick mask, type "Q" & check the channels tab below layers. Use paint brush & eraser to create the selection, then pull down Select
Load & choose the Quick Mask.

Make a copy of the layer – temporarily hide the original. Make the best selection you can with the lasso or magnetic lasso. Then go to Layer > Add Layer Mask > Reveal selection. With a soft brush, paint over the lips – white will show more areas, black will hide more. When you have a good selection, click on the thumbnail so that you are now painting on the picture, not the mask. Paint over with low opacity red brush until you have the color you want.
