I’ve got some scanned B&W text, and some pictures. If I want to lay them out onto a single page and then save it as a PDF file, I guessed Photoshop would be the place to do it.

Can anyone tell me if there’s a better way?

Can anyone tell me why when trying to paste pictures / text into a the Photoshop file I either get

(i) nothing,

(ii) a smaller image (I’ve figured out that is because I have different resolutions for text and image – but I need to downsize the photo, otherwise the resulting file will be HUGE),

(iii) the pasted picture is greyscale, and

(iv) why Photoshop slaps the pasted picture in the middle of the page and doesn’t let me drag it to where I want?

A vastly better way would be to use a page layout program like Quark or InDesign.

Scan the text and photo at the same resolution. Or better yet, input the Text using the Text Tool in Photoshop. That way it will be "live" and editable instead of a scanned picture.

The text is probably Grayscale. Change to RGB or CMYK in Image>Mode first.

It’s gotta paste somewhere.

You should be able to drag anything anywhere using the Move tool. Make sure the layer isn’t locked or a Background.
