I believe that when I used Adobe Gama to try (unsuccessfully) to adjust my monitor, I saved the new settings as AdobeRGB98 and thus overwrote the existing file. If I download the ICC profiles, can I simply replace the ones currently installed by CS in the system32/spool/drivers/color folder?
I almost sound like I know what I am talking about – not true – novice at this. Any help appreciated – considering reloading entire cs program.

reinstalling photoshop should overwrite the file and restore it.
