I have Photoshop v8, Windows XP, and HP Photosmart Imaging Software for the Photosmart 1315 Printer. I recently started receiving the " Hpi_Prnt MFC Application has encountered a Problem and Needs to close" message when I pressed the Print button. I contacted hp support and uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times to no effect. I then noticed that the problem cleared up as if by magic, and then reappeared again. This morning I tested on a newly booted computer. I ran the software and it worked OK, I loaded Photoshop v 8 and worked on a picture, I loaded the hp software to print it and it crashed again. I tried this several times and the problem is repeatable. I have reported my findings to hp. Since Adobe does not seem to have e-mail support for this sort of thing, I am posting the situation on this forum hoping 1) that an Adobe person will read and take action and 2) that if anyone has the same configuration they will be aware of the problem.

I use an HP 7150, and I haven’t had any problems printing from Photoshop CS. I have never tried not printing from Photoshop. In other words, I don’t specifically open HP software to print my images. Are you able to print directly from Photoshop?

You’ll have to contact HP about fixing their driver bug(s).

Don’t expect that to make a difference. I have had heaps of problems with an HP scanner. Tech support promised to get back to me within 5 days. That was in March.

HP produce a new driver and 9 times out of 10 it is buggy. They will lose out in the end – they are only interested in the mass market now now so good luck to them. My last HP scanner has gone and only one HP printer, my last, is left.

Two years ago a client asked me to select some scanners for them, 200 plus were needed, I got in touch with HP and asked them if they would package a higher spec driver with a lower spec model no response, no order. I had tested the driver with the scanner and it was more effective and flexible than the ‘hobbled’ low end software.

HP is now trying (belatedly) to get into the photo market, just look at their stupid ads on TV. They have a long way to go. Maybe they should stick with office printers, that’s their strong point!

If you have Photoshop, why bother with the HP junk, just print from Photoshop.
