I have had Photoshop 7 which I used for home digital photos. Nothing fancy. Red eye, brightness, contrast, ETC.

I am not into all this graphics stuff and that. The most exciting I have done is to use one of my progs to put a frame on a photo or the like.

I was checking out Adobe site and they have so many different Photoshops now that I am totally lost. What is more like the older Photoshops like 6 and 7 and will run on XP and Vista??

TIA

Why upgrade? You haven’t mentioned anything you want to do that you can’t do with PS7. The only reason to upgrade any program is to extend your abilities. What you have now exceeds both your needs and your abilities.

If you change, you might change to Elements. It’s simpler to use than PS7 or the more current versions of the full Photoshop.

There are free graphics programs. No where as extensive as even your very old PS7 but if you just need something simple (red eye, brightness, contrast):

http://www.irfanview.com/

Seems like IrfanView has an optional toolbar that you don’t want to install.

http://www.xnview.com/en/xnview.html

Read the install notes carefully and you should be OK.

If you’re thinking that you’ll need a newer Photoshop, PS6 runs on XP (well, it runs on Server 2003, so there’s no reason to suppose it won’t run on XP). So your PS7 should run on XP; I haven’t tried it on Vista.

I’ve run PS7 and CS4 on XP.

Come to think of it, I’ve run PS7 and CS3 on XP without any problems.

You were misinformed. I used PS 7 on XP for two years.

I have read – but I cannot verify it – that if you upgrade from XP to Vista that PS 7 will be fraught with problems. Having no interest in Vista, I didn’t try.

As I said in my reply to Tony, I have PS7 installed on my other Xp computer and it runs without any problems.

Why not try to install PS7 and/or try one of the two free programs I gave links to. Nothing to lose.
