One of my hard disk became severely corrupted and I can no longer access Photo Shop CS. The program can not be initialize because a "file" cannot be found.

Of course, I do not know what file they are talking about not can I find any email address to ask Adobe for help. I live in Costa Rica and do not wish to call the State if I can help it.

My program is fully paid for and has been operating normally for the past several months.

Since I am new to this forum and not sure that I can find my way back to check for an answer, if you can help please email me at

Thanks,

Rolf

Probably the file it needs is located on the bad spot of the disk. So, reinstall PS. You may need to delete your preferences, but do that after you have completed the reinstallation.

You can access Adobe at www.adobe.com.

You really ought to replace the defective disk. Most of the time, the things go bad elsewhere.

I am having the exact same problem. Have tried reinstalling countless times but to no avail. Any help posted on this forum would be of help to me also.

Not to be condescending, but do you know how to create a new bookmark?

That’ll be enough of a breadcrumb trail for you to find your way back to this thread.

Besides, we most prefer that information be shared publically so everyone can benefit.

Thankyou for your reply Len.

I have tried deleting my prefs file and no luck. I dont know whether having Photoshop 7 installed on the same machine is causing conflict.i did attempt to remove the prefs file for this version also and it brought up the following message ‘you currently have adobe Photoshop’s primary scratch and windows primary paging file on the same volume which can result in reduced performance. It is reccomended that you set Adobe Photoshops primary scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferebly a differnt physical drive’.

Does this make any sense to anyone, or could it be contributing to my problem.

I have also attempted to remove the program and all traces of it before reinstallation but agin, no luck.

Yeah, that does make a lot of sense, but since I’m not a computer guru, I sort of know why, but I can’t explain it because I don’t know enough.

I don’t know whether or not it would contribute to your other problem though.

Sally,

The ‘warning’ message is advisory only – it is NOT contributing to your problem.

Photoshop’s performance is better when the Windows paging file and the Photoshop Scratch are on two different drives, but if you only have a single drive, it will still run OK, just not quite as speedily.

Although you say "I am having the exact same problem", you haven’t really given us any information. Have YOU had a drive crash on you as has Rolf?

You also said "I have tried deleting my prefs file " – Did you succeed in doing so? Did you get the message asking you if you wanted to delete?

Yes i did succeed in deleting my prefs files.

My hard drive has not crashed and my computer seems to be working fine.

The problem i have had is that i was working one day and went to access PS and got this message ‘could not initialize photoshop because the file could not be found’. Like Rolf i have a fully registered version of photoshop CS which has been working fine for about 3 months. The only different thing i did recently was download some windows updates.

Sally,

No mention of WHAT file is missing?

What O/S (including Service Packs), how much RAM, free disk space etc., what video card ?
