After installing a recent MS security patch for w2k pro, I discovered that I could no longer paste Illustrator 10 graphics into Photoshop 7.

The problem was compounded by the fact that Illustrator graphics previously pasted into MS Word docs as EMFs (Enhanced Meta Files), would no longer display or print. All my Word docs from the last four years were affected by this problem.

A search of the MS website showed that MS is aware of the problem (for Illustrator and Word at least). I was able to obtain an ‘unreleased’ patch which resolved the issue for Word, but not for Photoshop. MS will not acknowledge the problem for Photoshop.

Not being able to copy and paste from Illustrator to Photoshop is a HUGE annoyance. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or discovered a solution?

Uninstall the hotfix?

Good idea. I’ll poke around a little bit more on the MS website to see if I can identify the problematic Hotfix. I’m not yet sure that I can figure out exactly which Hotfix is the culprit, or in fact, if the Hotfix in question is even uninstallable.

Cheers,

I’ve read about this somewhere else, but I don’t remember where. So, no, you’re not alone.

Thanks Bob,

Misery loves company, as they say.

It’s good to know the porblem is not something idiosyncratic on my machine.

I’d be careful about uninstalling hotfixes with Sasser et. al. running loose!

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but Microsoft have an "on request" hot fix for the hot fix re. EMF’s, apparently… http://support.microsoft.com/?id=840997

@Len

Thanks for the link. I had already installed that ‘on request’ patch before I posted my original message. That patch did solve the emf problem with MS Office, but not with Photoshop. Did you have, and solve, the same issue?

@Dave

I did in fact try to uninstall the Hotfix which MS reports as having caused the issue to arise. What a disaster!!! Not because of Sasser, but because after uninstalling the patch, Windows would not boot — not even in Safe Mode. After 4 hours of wrangling, our Sys Admin was finally able to get my machine to reboot from an emergencey repair CD.
And after all that trouble, the problem still exists! I guess I’m just going to have to live with it. Interestingly enough, the same problem does not occur under XP.
