I get an error when I try to uninstall Photoshop 6 from "add/remove" programs in Windows XP. When I press the "Change/Remove" button I get:
"An error occured while trying to remove Adobe Photoshop 6. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Adobe Photoshop 6 from the Add or Remove programs list?"
I click "NO"
Photoshop is NOT uninstalled, I can start it fine.

It says there is an Adobe support document on this called: "Error When Uninstalling PageMill, PhotoDeluxe, or Photoshop in Windows." and it is labeled as "Document 317448"

However, I can’t find this document anywhere on the Adobe site, even though it is clearly mentioned here:

< http://www.adobe.co.uk/support/toptech/photoshop/321143/main .html>

Anybody know how to manually uninstall Photoshop, or where this document 317448 is?

MS,

I can’t suggest what the problem is, but there have been some programs I’ve seen where regardless of the absence of normally inserted Windows registry settings, the program would still start up and appear to function just fine. It has been quite a while since I’ve done this, but I believe I have seen that true of Photoshop in the past. I once had a dual-boot PC configuration where PS was installed only under Windows 2000 and not Windows 98, yet I could still launch and run PS under Windows 98. If not exactly that, it was at least some flavor of this setup where had I seen any errors upon launching PS, I’d not have been surprised. But, in fact, I was surprised because PS did launch and run.

So, what I suggest as a possibility is that there may be some Windows registry entries associated with Photoshop that have either become corrupted or accidentally deleted, that affect the ability to uninstall Photoshop 6 while not affecting the ability to run the program. To uninstall it succesfully, I’d recommend you first reinstall PS6 and then uninstall it. That usually resolves such problems as you’re seeing here.

Hope that helps,

Daryl
