Hi

What’s your experience with color-matching between 2 images… Which is the best way 2 do this?
The build-in color match doesn’t really do a good job when I try.

Thanks, Ronni

I use that feature a lot at the moment and am surprised how well it works. I have one strobe with an inconsitent output, it used to ruin my work. Now I just use Match Color and all is good.

Hi Ronni,

like you, I have tried the feature and it is a little hit and miss. It is usually a great starting point though, followed up with manual adjustment using other methods. It makes the job easier in most cases. In some instances it is almost spot on and I may just have to reduce the saturation a little, or something like that.

Last time I offered this link that explains exactly how to mathematically match the colors every time, it took more than a week for them to get it out of their system that an adult site has GREAT PS Tutorials and shouldn’t be suggested. http://www.lairofluxlucre.com/
down near the bottom on one of the pages they have the FAKEU FREE link. Look for Fake University or FakeU.

READ THIS.. IT WAS DEFINED BY SOME IN THIS GROUP AS A PORN SITE. SAME ONES THAT MIGHT CALL BETTY BOOP PORN.
IT DOES IT’S ARTWORK IN ADULT THEMES. BUT YOU AREN’T GOING TO FIND BETTER OR CLEARER TUTORIALS. EXCEPT FOR THE ONE STUPID ONE.

IF NUDITY OFFENDS YOU DON’T FOLLOW THE LINK.
I’VE BEEN TOLD THE SITE IS FULL OF POPUPS. I’VE NEVER SEEN ONE. GET A GOOD POPUP KILLER IF YOU WANT TO VISIT THE SITE.
The popup killer in ie6 or XP works just fine.

I know about the site because I’ve made fakes. This is for those that want to claim I get some sort of a cut on a FREE Site whatever that means.

If you want those tutorials, leech them now. The owner has died, and the site did disappear once. It was revived, only question is how long. It’s about 12 megs zipped total.

I have found Image | Adjust | Selective Colour to be really useful in trying to match skin tones. I leave it at the default – ie it is making changes to the REDS in your photo … and this works pretty well most of the time for me. The ‘black’ adjustment can be particularly useful. If you haven’t tried this part of photoshop, I urge you to give it a go – it has served me very well, so far. Not a magic bullet of course, but often I can get a very close match using this first, and then tweaking with Colour Balance and/or Hue & Saturation afterwards.

Oh – make sure to get the overall ‘lighting’ as close as possible with Curves or Levels *first*. Then use Adjustment Layers for the various colour tweaks until it looks right.

and … accept that some things just can’t be matched 🙂

Good luck

Justin

I’ll try this the next time I have a problem.

Thanks 🙂
