Every once in a while Photoshop CS2 fails to startup on 10.5.7: it hangs at ‘Inititializing…’. Bridge has a similar problem. The only way to solve this is a reboot.

Is there any way to solve this more efficiently, through killing a process or removing a file?

Don’t have a Mac but I think you have to reset the preferences by holding down Command+Option+Shift keys as you launch the application

If this is not correct then its something to do with the fonts.

Been there, done that, doesn’t work. It’s not logical either, as I don’t see how corrupt preferences could be fixed by a reboot…

Could you be more specific?

Its not a reboot its relaunching CS2.

I can’t remember now what happens it was something that stuck in my mind. I think it loads up a whole heap of stuff when the application is launched which includes the fonts and if you have a corrupt font it hangs.

Have you tried a fresh install? this may sort the problem as well.

My problem is that I cannot relaunch CS2, whether I reset/trash preferences or not. I can only successfully relaunch CS2 after reboot.

I don’t think corrupt fonts get fixed on reboot.

I would like to find out what it is that causes to problem, in order to tackle it whenever it occurs. Something gets wrong that is only cured by a reboot, and I would like to find out what it is…

I think you have more problems within the Mac system than just PShop. Sorry I can’t help anymore – unfamiliar with Mac’s

You’ll need a newer verison of Photoshop, or an older version of OSX. CS2 came out originally for OSX 10.2.8, and other people have reported problems with Leopard (10.5.0)

Macs were never wonderful at compatibility with older versions, but that is not why people line up in droves when a new model comes out. —

I know, and I can live with some instability, so I’d prefer a chaeper solution…

If you are running an Intel Mac, then try running Photoshop in "Rosetta" compatability mode.

This will force Photoshop to run in PowerPC emulation. Some plugins may not like this, but it’s worth trying.

To run in Rosetta mode, select the Photoshop application icon and select
"Get Info" from the file menu. You will see a checkbox for Rosetta mode.
Check this box, close the info dialog and rerun photoshop.

Hope this helps you out.

If your car does not run, do not ask the mechanic how to fix the cigarette lighter.

If my car does not run, I want the mechanic to find out what’s wrong; I don’t just accept it if he tells me to buy a new car…

Have you tried the repair permissions option in Disk Utility? "Using Mac OS X, how do I repair permissions, and what does that do?" https://kb.iu.edu/data/aoxn.html

Otherwise, you could examine the log files:

….just a couple of suggestions.
