Occasionally while adding text to a JPG image, when I am typing the text and hit the *ENTER* key the cursor seems to move down two lines so that there is a very wide space between each line. I’m using an image with 150 dpi and only a 12 pt. type size. This doesn’t happen all the time so I can’t figure out the variables involved.

You control the spacing by setting the ‘leading’. On the file menu, click on Window/Character which should open the text palette where you can use the leading function on the top tight.

Check the "leading" of the text. "Leading" (pronounced "ledding") is the
typography term for the space between lines of text. If there is nothig in the "leading" box in the print options dialog, then Photoshop uses a default value of 120% of the type size; that is, 10-point type will have 12-point leading. Leading is measured in points, just like type; if you set 10-point type with 24-point leading, that is roughly the equivalent of double-spaced lines.
