Uninstalled Webcam – now I can’t open Photoshop. Help!

I need some advice. Ove the weekend, I installed a Logitec Webcam model QuickCam Pro 4000 and later I uninstalled it after finding out that it was incompatible with my WinTV board and program (they tow can’t share frame grabbers according to Happaugh). Now I can’t open JPEGS or Photoshop itself. Any ideas out there on how I might be able to fix this? I can’t find my original discs anywhere so realoading the program is a problem for me.

Check your file associations, and maybe delete the PS preferences:

Tell us what happens when you do fire up PS. Error message? Crash? Flames from keyboard?

I forgot to point out that I’m using Photoshop 4.0.
Anyhelp at all would be greatly appreciated!

When I fire up PS, the program just hangs for ever. It never give me an error message of any sort. I have to manually force it to shut down from the task manager.

I understand PS actually did launch when the webcam still was installed? Try to reinstall the little devil, see if PS runs and work from there. Did you uninstall from control panel? casu quo, it is uninstalled completely.

What would happen if you would reinstall PS?

[edit]: Come to think of it, maybe uninstalling the webcam uninstalled more than is good for the pc. (shared files??)

Rob,

I did not try running PS when the Web cam was installed. But my problem is that I can’t find any Adobe discs to reload anywhere in my office. I’m so bad with my filing. Anyway, are there drivers or updates or something I can download? Are you still suggesting that I get rif of my PS preferences file? Please advise.

Well, from a Photoshop perspective, it can’t do any harm to delete the preferences file as proposed earlier. (whether PS launches or not: prefs are re-created upon closing PS. It has to launch OK first that is)

But though it won’t hurt either way to delete prefs, I’m not sure it will cure the problem. Did you register PS4 at the time? if yes you might ask for new disks, but I doubt there will be any left.

But first do the prefs thing. no need for any disks whether fail or success. Rob
