I was on this utterly isolated airstrip in some god-forsaken jungle country waiting for aircraft to pick up a small group of mad adventurers, and me with a camera around my neck and one pair of underpants for every piece of camera gear struck up a conversation with a biologist from some world-leading university, who said that there was a free or under $50 program that was very good at enlarging images by using some fractal based functionality. Of course, I didn’t have a pen or a blackberry at the time, so does anybody know what that program might have been that he mentioned? Anyway the aircraft did arrive through the fog on time!

Genuine Fractals (plug-in to Photoshop).

Not a hot topic of late. I think the air has deflated out of it.

Probably Genuine Fractals. It is the most well-known product that claims to use a fractal algorithm for up-sampling.

But not free or under $50. I’m pretty sure the guy didn’t refer to Genuine Fractals. Lots of universities are doing research in this field, and I know that there was some rough program out there to try. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name.
