unwanted scatter in brush tool

I’m getting a scattering effect in brush tool. Scatter is not turned on, flow and opacity are set to 100% Also, when trying to draw a stright line (click, move shift click) I just get two dots. All was well until today, I don’t know what unwanted "feature" I may have turned on. Help!

Is the "Spacing" box unchecked? Check it and set it to a lower %
