I use Adobe Photoshop 7.0 everyday with no problems. Today my first problem was everytime I wanted to save it would totally close the entire adobe down. I click save, save as or save for web and once I hit one letter to type it would shut down. So I reset it with ctrl, alt, shift and tried to save a picture, this time it allowed me to type in a file name but when I hit save it then gave me an error message stating: Could not complete your request because of a program error.

Is anyone familiar with this type of problem and what can I do?? Desperate here =) Thanks in advance!

Okay I found the prefs file, deleted it, even deleted the recycle bin to make sure it was gone =) and it’s STILL shutting as soon as I type a letter to save it just vanishes. If you blink, you’ll miss it, literally, it’s that fast. Save as, type in a letter and bam it’s gone. This is so frustrating, I really need my beloved adobe *lol* Any other suggestions??

my beloved adobe

the program is called photoshop. adobe makes it. 🙂

turn down video hardware acceleration in the control panel> display> settings> troubleshooting section. see if it still happens. if that fixes it, update your video drivers and turn the acceleration back on.

run chkdsk with surface scan, you might have a hard drive problem.

Happy Vacation Dave!! I am jealous! I am a Mickey Mouse fanatic 🙂

Anyhow, I checked with surface scan and it said everything was okay. I tried Photoshop again and same problem, it just closes as soon as I try to save something. I can open pics, manipulate etc but just not save.

Anyone who can help? I’m getting a little desperate 🙂

Wasn’t there some older virus checker that caused this behavior in the save dialog?

I’m pretty sure I deleted it 🙂 I did a search for the *psp files and one said Photoshop 7.0 prefs and I deleted that and afterwards when I tried the program again it stated that I could customize my color settings if I wanted to. I just checked my photoshop again and it is STILL shutting down as soon as I try to type in a name to save. I have version 7.0 and my operating system is windows xp pro. Still hoping someone can help me =(

Did you do the 7.01 patch as previous poster asked?

Might as well cover that possibility, though I doubt this will cure it.

May go without saying, but several recent worms specifically went after Adobe products.
Have you been using "safe practices"? Do you run current anti-virus programs?

Do you down-load peer-to-peer software? Kazaa et al are infamous for installing spyware on your PC without permission.

Aloha Mac,

No I didn’t. I tried finding it but got lost. Could you tell me where I can find it? I will try searching it right now and if I do find it I will let you know.

Thanks!

Dave, you’re on vacation at either Disneyland Resort or Disney World. The parks are not called "Disney". Disney built and runs them. <eg>

Hope you’re having a great time!

I found the latest updates – installed them and it is still shutting itself down when I try to save 🙁

I think I am going to try and un-install and maybe re-install it? Not sure what else to do. Suffering without the program.

Thanks for everyones help … still open to suggestions.

Aloha Pierre,

No it doesn’t occur in any other apps. Only the adobe 7.0 …. I just tried it and it’s still shutting itself down as soon as I try to save. I tried un-installing and re-installing and that didn’t work. Can’t think of what else to do.

Still hoping for suggestions!

Just checking to see if anyone knows why when I try to save anything in photoshop 7 it automatically shuts the whole program down? I can do all sorts of things and I can save the original pic and any changes made, I just cannot save as or save a new pic. For example, I normally make a copy of the pic I am working on (so as not to screw up the original) and then I make changes to color, size etc and save that one. Well it will not allow me to do that. I can only save the original and only if I hit save … if I even try to change the file name it will also shut down. Have reset prefs, deleted the prefs and nothing has worked so far. Help!! 🙂

7.01 update?
J

Jul 14, 2004
Aloha Dave!

Yes I did scandisk, all our windows updates are current and I was directed awhile back to the 7.01 update as well. For now, I edit pics and save them. The only problem is I am so used to making a copy and editing the copy and keeping the original, which I no longer can do as it will not allow me to save anything but the original and only if I do not attempt to name it. I even bought a book on photoshop and basically learned nothing new. Seems like this is a problem that no one has encountered yet. *blah*

I do appreacite your help though and if you ever find out what my problem is please let me know.

Thanks!

Jen:

I am running PS 7 and have had similar trouble. Been rock steady forever – until recently. PS the only program that has the problem. But the trouble has evolved(?)and now I am unable to open files in certain folders. Typically folders with a fair number of images. Will also shut down without warning while working on an image. PS just shuts down, not a lock up or freeze. No blue screen, no error message, no kiss my ____, nothing. Done the update, preferences, etc. Haven’t found the magic combo to fix this yet. Would love to get the problem solved.

Am running on a Windows 2000 server box. Not used as a server – had to go to that OS in order to get mirrored RAID to protect data. The only real changes in my system are regular, (when available), Windows Critical Updates and Norton virus definition updates.
