I have been unable to reduce scanned photo to right size. 1)when scanning a photo from photoshop 4 home edition, it reads as an 8.5"X11" in lower left corner of scanned window. The actual size of the photo is 5X6. 2) I click on the heading,"size". The window pops up and I enter in the size I want(2.75"X2.25"). Then I hit ok. Then I press print, the photo comes out about the size of a postage stamp. I have checked and unchecked the proportion box and tried it both ways.

I’m not sure if this answers your question, but my scanning software I use will scan the entire bed of the scanner. It will come up in the preview window with what i wanted it to scan, along with a bunch of white space. I then have to use a marquee tool to select what I want on the "canvas" of the scan and then tell it to scan that. It will scan in at whatever resolution I set it at, etc… Might check and see if you have to select what you want scanned, instead of scanning the entire 81/2×11 bed of the scanner.

Resolution. Set your scan resolution to 300 ppi.

Most scanning software (you don’t mention which scanner) allows you to draw a marquee around the area you wish to scan. You do that, then set your color/grayscale settings and your resolution.

Alt-Click in the lower left hand corner of photoshop (where it displays document sizes) to see your image dimension information once you’ve scanned it in. I think that’s where your clue lies…

Peace,
Tony
