I wonder if you can help me.

I am fairly new to Photoshop (I have Photoshop 7) and I am have a problem.

I am trying to draw a triangle that I can then fill in with the gradient tool. I tried using the Custom Shape tool but the triangle was not the type I wanted and when I tried to use the gradient tool it filled the whole window rather than just the triangle.
I actually require 2 triangles. The triangles I require are :- 1 with the base at the bottom and the point at the top and another with the base at the top and the point at the bottom.

Could someone please tell me the best way to create a triangle (as outlined above) with a gradient fill?
Please do not be too technical as I do not know all the correct terminology.

I hope you can help.

I appreciate any help or information received.

Thanks!

If you switch on the gridlines, it should be easy to use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to make a triangular selection.

What you forgot to do was click Select > Load Selection. Then only the shape
gets filled.

I agree with Johan.
Use the polygonal selection tool.
Using View>Show grid will make life easier.
You could also choose to turn on View> Snap to Grid if you have trouble drawing horizontal lines.
Keep the area selected and drag your gradient across it then only the selected area (the triangle) will get the gradient fill. If you deselect the triangle then try to fill it the whole layer gets the gradient fill.
If you want an identical triangle – but pointing in the opposite direction then keep the triangle selected and use Layer>New>Layer via Copy The rotate your selection by 180 degrees

You can use the polygonal lasso tool to create a triangle, while the triangle shape that you made is still selected use the gradient fill tool on the triangle
