I recently purchased the book Photoshop Retouching Handbook, by Carol Braverman, published by IDG. Unfortunately, during its transit from my office to my house, the CD cracked in half, so it’s unusable. I looked online for IDG’s Website and I couldn’t find it – www.idgbooks.com, as printed on the book, doesn’t work. I’m wondering if a kind soul could post the CD, perhaps in .iso format, so that I could have it once again. The book uses the CD extensively and without it the book would not be very useful. Thanks in advance!

Since I already own the book, and I only need the CD, I don’t want to
repurchase it. I have the CD in front of me, and it is in two pieces.
Sad really.

Take a pic of the book, broken CD and sales record and send it where you purchased the book.
Most likely they’ll help you.
I did that once with a game my kids had trashed and I got a new one.

For the first time of your life, maybe, try e-mule
that’s certainly not a kind of solution for music or movie artists but sometimes for books, operators manuals, and even maps that’s do the trick…

Oh don’t be petty like that. It’s called asking if anyone can help. If you view it as making my problem yours, then you have an immature attitude about people asking for help. Grow up and keep your snarky comments to yourself.

Suggestion: Go and get an old CD for software that you no longer need/use. (Not one you’ve written yourself, a commercial one).

Now, take it in both hands and try and snap it in half, and see how much force it takes to do so. Remembering that you just snap it into two, not into pieces.

Your suggestion and logic is BS. I am the proud owner of (2) Photoshop 5 For Windows Bible (Deke McClelland) books. The first one came in from Amazon.com with the CD broken in half. I sent them a scan of the broken disk and rather than returning the first book and broken disk, they simply resent everything and told me to keep the first book. The point is, disks can be broken even in an unopened jacket inside the back cover of a 2" thick book.

Jimmy, I sold a brokerage about a year ago. I was in possesion of lots (lots like in many) cd’s with very personal client details. I sold my house and moved to another part of the country where I also own property.
To make a long story short, when I moved, I destroyed disks with detailed personal information of my clients.

I used a hacksaw in a vice, and then, to make it easier, used a hamer & chissel. Over there, are disks made from butter or what:-) (don’t by disks from dairy farms)

Not being sarcastic, but supporting Hecate with what she said. I sure a surfboard can be made from the same material:-)

Yeah right. That’s why there are machines produced specifically for destroying CDs.

Just stating the fact, the disk I received with the book was broken into two pieces. No evidence of any hacksaw, hammer, or chisel markings on the commercial disk or the book. Perhaps there was a flaw in the disk, I don’t know. I know the disks are tough as a rule, but I certainly would not imply that there is something wrong with Perry M’s story as Hecate and others have done.

To test to see if you methodology for destroying disks is really necessary, I just bent a cd-r disk in one hand (thumb, middle finger, and index finger as a fulcrum in the center) until it snapped into many pieces. Perhaps you had a bad day at the office when you resorted to using hammer and chisel. 🙂

I just happen to have two Photoshop 5 Bible books available for sale, one without the original commercial disk — would you be interested? Would you be interested in purchasing either or both! Just stating what happened to me, believe it or not. The disk was split in to two pieces, in a plastic cd sleeve located inside the back cover of the book.

Into many pieces? Exactly. Not in half.

I can believe that you can purchase a book and find that the CD is damaged, even, possibly, split in two. I can’t believe that someone buys a book and the CD is alright and then it miraculously splits in half…

As for the Bible – I have a manual thanks and as far as I’m concerned it’s just a manual on steroids 😉

Where is this thread going? You lot are all losing the plot! LOL

As far as that disk breaking is concerned, the one breaking in the back of the book is a little different to bending one in your hand. In the back of the book, if the book was bent, the pages are "holding together" most of the CD so it does not flex in many directions and so it only breaks along (follows) the bend of the pages. So it is "possible".

Let’s not argue whether bibles are better than tutorials, that is silly.

Fine. Just in the process of purchasing a digital SLR – the 350D. I didn’t want to spend the money on a pro DSLR until I’d got used to digital. The new 300mm IS lens is doing fine too 😉

OK. I’ve narrowed it down to a couple of pics and then I shall have to spend a bit of time making one or other presentable and anonymous 😉
