bought a copy of adobe photoshop 7, from ebay and I can’t register. How do I know if I’ve been sold a copy (or already used reg code) or not?

The CD came in a hologram-sealed white sleeve, with text on it saying CD liceince Key is on the CD readme file.

When I try to register the message above is as far as I get.

Meaning, you can’t INSTALL it, right?

The program was never distributed that way, the serial number is NOT on the CD in legal versions.

Is this an actual "silver" based commercial CD or a CD-R? Either way, methinks you’ve been had.

I can install fine, I just can’t register.

The item number on Ebay is 3678536373.

Have a look and let me know what you think. P.S. you will need to be registered.

It appears to be a proper CD.

Can someone please confirm whether Adobe Photoshop 7 was EVER distributed in this way (maybe as part of a set), before I start to take action.

That CD is clearly not an official Adobe product. Notice that the image on the disc is the logo from PS 6, not 7. You’ve been had, friend.

My guess is poor Asian mass produced bootleg.

Neil,

You should report this to eBay immediately and if you paid by credit card, report it to them, too.

It’s flat out fraud.

I have emailed the seller and asked for a full refund ASAP.

My guess is you won’t see 200 pounds back from that newby seller on his own volition. Has also been selling XP and Office XP, prolly bootleg also, even though he has feedbacks for them, go figger. This is second PS 7 he’s unloaded.

You are in UK also?
Did you (hopefully) use PayPal?

I did use Paypal.

If seller won’t refund, approach PayPal fraud claim. If PP needs any more proof, just call Adobe customer support, see if you can get an email statement that the program isn’t legit.

Traditionally, PayPal would only kick back funds IF the seller leaves any in his account. But there is now a Buyer Protection thingie:

"PayPal Buyer Protection is an extension of PayPal’s Buyer Complaint Process. Under PayPal Buyer Protection, when you use PayPal to pay for a qualified listing on ebay.com, ebay.co.uk, or ebay.ca you are eligible for up to $500.00 USD of coverage at no additional cost. PayPal Buyer Protection covers non-delivery of items and items that are significantly not as described."

PayPal Buyer Protection

Whoops, seller has to offer it.
Of course, a reputable seller would make good on it himself, rather than let PayPal refund it (thus probably ending the seller’s PayPal account), so that probably doesn’t cover it.

So you’d be back to the Buyer Complaint Process, in which case I believe it’s like before, where the seller would have to have funds in his account for PayPal to pull.

But hopefully, all this is just speculation and the seller will make good, but he doesn’t have much of a track record on eBay yet, so I’m doubtful. Will keep a good thought,

Mac,

Paypal’s rules are also different for customers outside the US – and offer far less protection to ‘overseas’ purchasers

I know, Len…I’ve done PayPal from almost the beginning, long before eBay bought it.
But the US and UK policies are now almost identical, even selling back and forth over the pond. And of course both buyer and seller in this thread are in UK.

One of the major diffs is still that you cannot add a surcharge for using PayPal in the US, but you can in UK.
